63 Degrees and Sunny

The weekend held promise of some serious garden progress, but we decided to go to the coast instead.

Toward the end of our 90-minute drive little girl started to protest. Usually she's pretty content to look out the window on car trips, so when her fussing turned to wailing we quickly pulled over at a city park. No sooner did I open her door when she stopped crying and started vomiting. Poor thing!

Since it would be cruel to strap her back into the car seat and spend another 90 minutes in the car, we decided to tried to make the best of it. After some cuddles and swinging in the park, we headed down the road for the state park.
It was a wonderfully warm day at the coast.
We set out on a hike we've attempted twice before -- once on Kyle's 30th birthday when I was wearing flip-flops and once when Rosie was about five weeks old and I was recovering from the c-section. We didn't make it very far either time.
This time we did the entire five mile hike! Sweet child was a trooper even though she was clearly exhausted and likely still a little sick.

She especially enjoyed the parts of the hike where she could see the ocean. "Water! Water!" She also enjoyed seeing all of the dogs and trees.

She also made the startling discovery that the sky is blue. This was the first time she's seen blue sky since she started identifying colors last month. All that blue made for some pretty enthusiastic exclamations. I can't say I didn't share the enthusiasm.
We wrapped up the day proud, but tired.
Here's to third times the charm on the family hike.
