First Garden Post of the Year

Today Kyle noticed a whole flock of robins in the front yard. A few minutes later he left the room and came back grumbling about seeing a dandelion blooming outside. I guess it's true what they say about spring beginning in January in the Willamette River Valley. Never mind the fact that it is 28 degrees outside.

Spring or not, gardening season has officially begun. Our kitchen window became home this week to a whole tray of seeds starts. And even more exciting ...

 Our new peach and pear trees!

Kyle planted these along the driveway. We have two of each with a plan to add an espalier fence. We're still pondering how to fit in some more apple trees and cherries .... mmm cherries ... but for now we're pretty darn excited about peaches and pears.
